C-log Settings

Not clog

Recently, I was taking video on one of the mirrorless Canon cameras in the office (that’s right, I am multifaceted) and things were looking a little hazy and flat on the display.

“What the heck is that,” I asked.

“That’s C-log,” said google.

Basically, this setting collects a LOT of data —it senses wavelengths outside the visible light range— so that in post production, you have greater colour editing capabilities…think of it like the RAW file version of video. (idk if I’m explaining this right. If you know about C-log settings, feel free to email me to correct me.)

Though I am multifaceted, I am not that multifaceted and I was not willing to go down the rabbit hole of post production video colour grading for a podcast when I am already losing my mind in Lightroom on a daily basis. So I just turned the C-log setting off and the automatic colouring looked great (hot take).

Anyway, now for pitches!

Announcements

  • The Ubyssey has made some updates to naming convention and file sharing. I’ve highlighted the parts that have been changed to the contributing instructions below.

  • I will be working virtually for the month of July and August, so if you need anything from me in-person, let me know before June 24th! (There will still be other editors in the office to lend out equipment and stuff but I will not be there to chat unfortunately)

A random photo I found on the internet showing C-log. On the left, is a colour graded image while the right image is the initial C-log video.
