It’s that time of the year y’all. Welcome back to the Ubyssey’s photo section!
My name is Isa, if we haven’t met already. I’ll be your photo editor for this upcoming year, excited to work with you all.

I hope you all found your classes okay and don’t have too many readings to do… yet.

Announcements

  • Our first photo section meeting will be Thursday, September 14th at 2PM in the office. I know some of you can’t make it, so please fill out this new when2meet so we might find a time that works for more people. https://www.when2meet.com/?21298507-mXsEc

  • Join the facebook group and discord! Email pitch-lists will go out once a week but rolling pitches will be posted on facebook and discord as soon as I get requests for them.

First time contributing? Start here!

1. Check out these guides to the Ubyssey photo section and what makes a good photo.

2. To claim a pitch, reply to this email and wait for confirmation from me that it's still available.

3. If you need to borrow a camera, let me know when you sign up for a pitch.

4. Take as many photos as you think fit the assignment, then select the best 5–10. Feel free to use editing software as needed (and let me know if you need Lightroom access).

5. Send photos in JPG format and make sure each file is between 1–3MB.

6. Name the photos as follows: YYYYMMDD_first initial_last name_pitch_file number (e.g., 20230908 i you chair 1)

7. For coverage of people and events, please provide a brief caption to go alongside each photo.

8. Email photos in a folder to [email protected]. If sharing via Google Drive, please make sure I have access!

Photo pitches

Please send in all photos by 11am on the deadline (unless the event you are covering is happening that day). If you need to borrow a camera, let me know when you sign up for a pitch.

  1. Football: Thunderbirds vs UManitoba. September 16th, 1pm at Thunderbird Stadium. Due 11am September 18th.

News

  1. Climate strike on September 15th, 1pm at Vancouver city hall. Due 11 am September 16th.

  2. Migrant rights rally on September 17th, 4pm at 300 W Georgia. Due 11am September 18th.
