Welcome Back!

I hope you all had an amazing break and I hope you're feeling refreshed and energised because... drumroll please 🥁... IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK!

My New Year's resolution is to be a 'chill-guy'—no more stress, no more panic. I'm going to sit back and embrace a relaxed attitude. Let's hope I can stick to this! I'd love to hear about your New Year's resolutions too, so if you decide to pick up a pitch below, feel free to include your resolution in your email!

Announcements

  • My office hours will continue to be on Mondays 2-3 p.m. If you want to know more about the photo section at The Ubyssey or want to learn more about photography in general - you can catch me in our office (NEST 2208)

  • More information about general meetings will be out on our discord channel very soon so keep an eye out!

First time contributing? Start here!

1. Check out these guides to the Ubyssey photo section and what makes a good photo.

2. To claim a pitch, reply to this email and wait for confirmation from me that it's still available.

3. If you need to borrow a camera, let me know when you sign up for a pitch.

4. Take as many photos as you think fit the assignment, then select the best 5–10. Feel free to use editing software as needed (and let me know if you need Lightroom access).

5. Send photos in JPG format and make sure each file is between 1–3MB.

6. Name the photos as follows: YYYYMMDD_first initial_last name_pitch_file number (e.g., 20210908 s kamra sky train 1)

7. For coverage of people and events, please provide a brief caption to go alongside each photo.

8. Email photos in a folder to [email protected]. If sharing via Google Drive, please make sure I have access!

Photo pitches

Please send in all photos by 12 p.m. on the deadline (unless the event you are covering is happening that day). If you need to borrow a camera, let me know when you sign up for a pitch.

Sports

These games require coverage at specific times and locations. The angle of the photo should be more in action pictures instead of still pictures.

  1. Attend and take photos of women’s basketball game on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in War Memorial Gym. Take some short tik tok style videos as well with your mobile device (no shorter than 5 seconds).

News

The AUA by-election is taking place in the next two weeks. Additionally, there will be a debate on January 20th, followed by a results night to announce the winner. I will need photographers for these events. If you are interested in covering them with me, please reply to this email, and I will provide you with further information.
